Young Talent in the Premier League

By: Ramsey Mokhtar

With the 2023-24 premier league season ending, we have seen the rise of a new generation of football players. Many young players have already made their premier league debut, and some have reached the starting eleven. I will be breaking down my top premier league stars in this article. We are going to start with Cole Palmer in no specific order. Palmer was developed at the Manchester City Academy and even got some playing time in the FA Cup. Still, with competition from the talent of the City midfielders, Palmer could not find his way into the team, leading him to join London side Chelsea on September 1st, 2023. Many fans doubted Palmer and even called him a “Man City Reject. Palmer immediately proved everyone wrong by significantly impacting the team in his first year with the club. Palmer bagged twenty goals and nine assists in just twenty-seven games, meaning he leads the premier league in total goals alongside Eerling Halland. Cole Palmer is twenty-one years old and has a bright future ahead of him in the Premier League, highlighting why he is one of the best-rising stars in the Premier League.

Next on my list is Alejandro Garnacho. Garnacho is an Argentinian winger who has already impacted the team at just the age of nineteen. Garnacho played for Manchester United and was already called up to his national team for the World Cup. Although Garnacho has not had as much of an impact as Palmer he has still shown that he is a class player. Garnacho scored the season's goal against Everton and bagged two goals in Manchester United’s recent game against Chelsea. Garnacho is only nineteen and is already developing into a star. Due to his young age, Garnacho will have a lot of time to build and become the future of Manchester United. Garnacho has contributed seven goals and three assists in the regular season and even managed to bag himself a Champions League goal.

Next up is Kobbie Mainoo. Mainoo is a central midfielder for Manchester United who came up through the Manchester United academy. Mainoo has already started multiple games for the Red Devils and has shown his class composure, passing, and shooting. Eighteen-year-old Mainoo has already impacted the club and scored a beautiful goal against Liverpool to give United the 2-1 lead. Mainoo is only eighteen and has already worked his way into eighteen season games for the Red Devils. Mainoo was also called up to the England squad, and the sky is the limit for the English youngster. Mainoo is a very composed and passionate player; he is always hustling and putting in brilliant tackles, and he will undoubtedly develop into a star for the club.

Rico Lewis is the last footballer on my list. Lewis is an English football player who plays outside back or center defensive mid for Manchester City. Lewis joined Manchester City when he was eight, playing for their academy team. Lewis developed faster than most academy players due to his quick footwork, defensive ability, and effort. Rico was called up to the first team at the start of the 2022-2023 season and found a good amount of in-game minutes for a 19-year-old. After many games of being a substitute, Rico was able to start in a Champions League game and even scored a goal that tied up the game in a 3-1 comeback win vs Sevilla while he was just 17. Rico has shown lots of grit and effort, which led him to sign a five-year deal with his home club, Manchester City. Lewis has also been called up to play for the England team and was able to start in a World Cup qualifying game against North Macedonia, leading the team to secure a spot in the World Cup.
